What is this medicine used for?
-Topical treatment of primary and secondary bacterial skin infections
-Caused by Staphylococcus Aureas and Streptococcus Pyogenes
-Impetigo, follicullitis, furunculosis and ecthyma
How much and how often should you use this medicine?
2-3 times a day for up to 10 days, depending on response.
Do not mix with other preparations as there is a chance of dilution, resulting in reduction in the antibacterial activity and potential loss of stability of Mupirocin in the ointment.
Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients who have a history of hypersensitivity to any components of the preparation.
Special Precautions
-Patients with renal impairment
-Not suitable for opthalmic use, intranasal use, at the site of central venus cannulation.
-Polyethylene glycol can be absorbed from open wounds.
-Mupirocin should not be used in conditions where absorption of large quantities
-Of polyethylene glycol is possible especially in patients with renal impairment.
Adverse Reactions
Common: Burning localized to area of application
Uncommon: Itching, erythema, stinging and dryness localized to the area of application.
Very rare: systemic allegic reactions to Mupirocin.
