What is this medicine used for?
For the treatment of:
- Hyperuricemia (level of uric acid is abnormally high)
- Gout
- Urate nephropathy (rapidly decreasing kidney function that is caused by high levels of uric acid in the urine)
How much and how often should you use this medicine?
Allopurinol 100 mg
- Adults: Depending on the current uric acid values in serum, 1-3 tablets of Allopurinol 100 mg (equivalent to 100-300 mg allopurinol) are taken per day.
- Children: The daily dose is 10 mg allopurinol per kg bodyweight (up to maximum 400mg/day), divided into 3 single doses.
Allopurinol 300 mg
- Adults: Depending on the current uric acid values in serum, 1 tablet of Allopurinol 300 mg (equivalent to 300 mg allopurinol) is taken per day.
- Children: Due to high content of active substance, Allopurinol 300 mg is not suitable for children as well as patients with impaired renal or hepatic function.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Allopurinol or any of the ingredients in the product
- Azathioprine: prolonged effect of Allopurinol
- Ampicillin, Amoxicillin: rashes, fever, itching
- Captopril: increased risk of skin reactions
- Warfarin: increased risk of bleeding
- Breastfeeding: Allopurinol may be secreted in breastmilk
