What is this medicine used for?
For the treatment of hypertension, for patients in whom combination therapy is appropriate.
How much and how often should you use this medicine?
Usual initial and maintenance adult dose: 1 tablet once daily.
For patients who do not respond adequately, adjust to a maximum dose of:
- 1 tablet of Losarite™ 100 mg/ 25 mg FDC (Fixed Dose Combination) daily or,
- 2 tablets of Losarite™ 50 mg/ 12.5 mg FDC (Fixed Dose Combination) daily
Or, as prescribed by a physician.
- Dosing must be individualized and adjusted according to blood pressure response
- May be administered with other antihypertensives
- May be taken with or without food
- Do not initiate combination therapy in patients who are intravascularly volume-depleted (e.g., those treated with high-dose diuretics)
Contrainidications
Losartan
- Spironolactone, Triamterene, Amiloride: increased blood potassium levels
Hydrochlorothiazide
- Alcohol, Phenobarbital: may cause a sudden decrease in blood pressure upon standing
- Insulin and oral antidiabetics
- Cholestyramine, Colestipol: reduced absorption of hydrochlorothiazide
- Corticosteroids, Adrenocorticotropic hormone: may cause electrolyte depletion, particularly a decrease in potassium levels
